The run went well. Started off a little hesitant and pretty nervous at 9.00am with approx 10,000 people in the YELLOW team. Hit the ground running and straight up to the notorious Kings Cross. Was running with a girlfriend of mine, but she had been training intensely so she shot off from me at the 2km mark so from there I was on my lonesome..
Heartbreak hill was a KILLER! However I was persistent that I was going to run up the whole way. Seriously, the money every one had donated and also the thought of a cider at the end got me through. The 6km mark was a pretty big wake up call. I was in a lot of pain at that stage and wasn't even halfway yet... however I pushed through. At 10km I thought it would be a great idea to get some water and tried to run at the same time as drinking it.... I don't recommend this by the way. I choked so badly on the water and felt like I was having an asthma attack as I couldn't breathe.. HOWEVER.. i survived!
Jimmy Bartell cheered me on at the 12km mark... WINNER! Cruised down through Bondi, saw some girlfriends of mine and then sprinted to the finish line. I did it in 1.20 and to my knowledge beat good old Tony Abbott and the bondi vet who apparently died in a whole at the 10km mark.. SUCKER...
After party was had at the Hill Eatery where I enjoyed NUMEROUS ciders with Perth folk but couldn't get the energy to party. Was in bed by 8.00pm complaining of sore legs and exhaustion.
Charity who I was running for, Upside, managed to raise $4000 and thanks to all your efforts, I raised $850.00... THANKYOU SO SO MUCH to each and everyone of you who donated.
The key to the project is ensuring that these communities are self-sufficient so we can step away at the end of the day. If anyone wants to know more about the project feel free to check out the website: http://www.upsidenepal.org
Attached is some photographic evidence for you... ABSOLUTELY horrendous photo . but hey.. who cares.. all for charity!
Thankyou once again!!! Everyone who donated, your money has gone to an incredible cause and helping those less fortunate than us to improve social infrastructure like new schools & health posts. We take a lot for granted in our every day life so it's important to take a step back and realise the power that we have to give back and help others. Every little bit counts so thankyou!
